Invoicing by Fusion Payments — Profit

What you actually made on the job. Cost per line, profit per item, month by month.

Invoicing by Fusion Payments lets you record what each line cost you — on the item, or on the invoice — and shows the profit and margin on invoices that were paid. Only you see it. A cost never appears on an invoice, a PDF or a receipt.

Invoicing by Fusion Payments — Recording cost

How do I track profit on my invoices?

Give each item a "Your cost" on Items & services, or set a cost on a line from the invoice itself or from the Profit page. Revenue minus that cost, on invoices that were paid, is your profit — shown with the margin.

When you save a cost on an item and past invoice lines for it have none, the app asks "Apply this cost to past invoices?" so history fills in with one click. A cost already recorded on a line is never overwritten.

  • Materials, labor, wholesale

Cost is whatever the line cost you, per unit. As you type it, the item shows profit per unit and margin.

  • A blank is a blank

A line with no cost is left out of the figures and counted separately as "Not yet costed" — never treated as free — so the profit figure is never flattered.

The Profit page

What does the Profit page show?

Four tiles — "Revenue", "Your cost", "Profit" with the margin, and "Not yet costed" — for the last 30 or 90 days, this year or all time, counted on invoices that were paid by the day the money arrived. Under them, cost against what you sell it for by item, "By month" when the period spans more than one, and the list of lines still waiting for a cost.

An item sold below cost shows in red. Revenue here is the amount billed on costed lines; tax, shipping and invoice-level discounts are left out.

Invoicing by Fusion Payments — Private by design

Will my customer ever see my cost or margin?

No. Costs appear on Profit, on Items & services and in the "Your profit" panel of your own copy of an invoice. They are never on the invoice, the PDF, the email or the payment page, and no export in the app carries them.

The item list exports without the cost column, on purpose: an exported price list gets forwarded.

Q-01Does profit include unpaid invoices?

No. Profit counts invoices that were paid, by the day the money arrived. Widen the period to see more.

Q-02Can I change a cost on an invoice that is already paid?

Yes. From the Profit page under "Lines with no cost recorded", or from the invoice’s "Your profit" panel. It changes your profit figure, never the invoice.

Q-03Can I export the profit report?

No, by design. Nothing in the app exports a cost or a profit figure.

Q-04Does the cost carry to the next invoice?

Yes, when it is set on the item. Every new line picked from Items & services carries the item’s cost, and you can change it on that invoice.
